Website Basics for Artisan's Accomplice Web Sites

This 2-hour hands-on course will cover the basics of website setup using the Artisan's Accomplice website system. By the end of the course each student will have a properly setup website and will be comfortable working with it.

Students will learn the following topics:

Overview of the key features of your Artisan's Accomplice Website
How to create and edit pages on your website
How to crop and prepare your photos for uploading
How to setup your gallery, assign categories, and link your site to PayPal
What happens when someone purchases from your website.

Prerequisites: Students must have purchased an Artisan's Accomplice Account prior to attending class (either monthly or annual package). Students need to be able to operate a Web Browser and be comfortable using email. Bring at least 2 good photos of your pieces: one for your home page and one to upload into your gallery. Bring your wireless enabled laptop or please indicate if you need to borrow a loaner laptop.

Have you ever wanted to photograph your jewelry on a white or black background and struggled with the results? Maybe you wanted to show a little more detail on your handmade rings or earrings. You'll explore exposure as well as macro (close-up) photography. Please bring your digital camera and a few pairs of rings or earrings to photograph. A camera with manual settings is helpful, but not required.

In this two-day workshop, we’ll make large and small glass beads and buttons for earrings, pendants and a bracelet and also create several simple pieces of jewelry featuring your handmade components. The emphasis will be on making jewelry that’s cute and fun. We’ll be using hearts and flowers for motifs and combining colors like pink, red and purple…and of course, anything else your heart desires. Each student will complete at least two pairs of drop earrings, a wire-work pendant and a simple feminine bracelet. Come and be girly!

Spiny Knotted Bracelet with Stephanie Sersich

In the workshop, use floss and waxed linen to bind beads and other treasures into a bracelet. You’ll also learn how to apply the technique to make a necklace. The materials and methods provide an opportunity for self-expression—there is no pattern to follow, the beads can vary in size, color and shape. Each student in the class creates a bracelet different from the others’. The unusual materials and larger bead sizes seem to level the playing field for beginners and long-time beaders. Most students will complete the bracelet in class.

Radial Bead and Button Brooch with Stephanie Sersich

Stephanie layers materials and fastens items with fibers to create many of her pieces. In this class, she’ll show you her latest design - a brooch made from beads, waxed linen and a button. The project will be featured in her book that’s due out in the spring of 2008, but this is your chance to learn the intricacies of the technique from Stephanie herself! The colors and motifs will be of the students’ choosing and each student’s brooch will look different from the others’. The class will focus on using waxed linen, a marvelous fiber, to make jewelry from beads and buttons. Participants will use waxed linen and threads to bind together their beads and treasures into a brooch first, and if time allows, start a ring or pendant made in a similar manner.

Precious Metal Clay (PMC) for Beginners
